Peter Beattie, Premier of the State of Queensland, Australia, was born on November 18, 1952. He worked as a lawyer before becoming State Secretary of the Queensland Labor Party from 1981 to 1988. In 1989, Peter Beattie was elected to Parliament as the Member for Brisbane Central and was immediately appointed as the Chair of the reforming Parliamentary Criminal Justice Committee.
